Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy, has welcomed a report on the quality of drinking water in Northern Ireland, according to the Executive.

The ‘Drinking Water Quality in Northern Ireland’ report was published by the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

It found the quality of public drinking water supplies in Northern Ireland remains high, with overall compliance for samples taken from water treatment works, service reservoirs and consumers’ taps at 99.83%.

Speaking after the publication of the report, Minister Kennedy said: “Investment has led to upgrades of water treatment facilities across Northern Ireland, enabling high quality water to continue to be provided. We need to maintain investment to keep standards high by making further improvements in our infrastructure.”

However, the report also states that vigilance is required in order to maintain the high quality of drinking water and that good operational practice and management should be applied at every stage in water supply.

Commenting on this, the Minister said: “NI Water’s ongoing investment programme which focuses on continuing to improve drinking water quality, will see further upgrades to its water treatment works and distribution systems. I welcome the improvement this will bring for the overall health and well-being of the Northern Ireland consumer, by providing safe, clean drinking water.”

If you want to make sure your water is as safe as possible, wherever you are, then you should consider purchasing a water filtering system from The Water Filter Company. With a range of options, clearly explained, you can choose the water filter you want to ensure you get everything you need from your drinking water.

A small town in California, USA, has had to turn to water filter technology in order to ensure they have access to clean drinking water. Monson residents have been using water filters in each home, a service paid for by local Rotary Clubs and one which is usually reserved for helping Third World communities.

Monson and other small towns in Tulare County, CA, wrestle with widespread contamination from nitrates from fertilizers, septic tanks, animal waste and decaying vegetation. Nitrates can cause a potentially fatal blood disease in infants. They also are linked to cancer.

But rural towns needing state help with water fixes face years of technical delays.

For Tulare County towns, the technical delays have meant years of reliance on bottled water, even though California voters have approved millions of dollars for drinking-water fixes.

Many families spend up to 10% of their income to buy safe drinking water.

But soon Monson will be spared that expense. Plumbers and other expert volunteers from Rotary will teach residents how to maintain their new filtration systems. Water in each home will be tested before and after the system installation.

Rotary leaders say an advanced filtering system will be under kitchen sinks for residents. The units lower nitrates by nearly 90% and make the water safe to drink.

Called a reverse osmosis system, tainted water is forced through a high-tech membrane that traps contaminants but allows water to pass. Maintenance costs about $25 for filter replacement after several months. Once a year, replacement of the high-tech membrane costs a little more than $100.

Whilst not a long-term solution, this story highlights how useful water filters can be – to some, they are little short of a necessity. The Water Filter Company has a diverse range of filters for all our customers’ filtering needs, whether it is a necessity or just for a little luxury!

Filtered water is a good idea for any home, as it brings with it enormous benefits over standard tap water, for your health, your appearance and even your taste buds. Moreover, it’s a lot cheaper and simpler to get hold of than you might think!

Filtered water often tastes better than regular tap water, making it, most importantly, more pleasant to drink. By filtering your tap water, you also remove any remaining chemicals and harmful toxins that may remain in your water even after filtering by your water provider. And it works out much cheaper to invest in a water filtering system than to continuously buy bottled water, where you are also paying for the packaging.

Filtering water also removes chlorine, meaning that if you drink or wash with filtered water, you will see the physical benefits too, with softer skin, shinier hair and healthier nails.

And of course, healthier water also makes sure you are healthier on the inside too, ensuring you are fully-functioning and detoxified, with a happy mind and happy body.

The Water Filter Company has an excellent choice of water filters, to suit whichever water dispensing unit you have or want. Different filters do different things, so you have the option to select the best filter for your needs.

Supermarket bottled water has long come under scrutiny for not being everything it claims to be.

But critics have now gone as far as calling some supermarkets “immoral” for placing their own-brand bottled water on shelves alongside brands or mineral water such as Evian. The water sold by these supermarkets is in fact just filtered mains water – something which we could all produce at home, but sold to us at a mark-up of 2500 times the price paid by homeowners for their mains water.

Jacob Tompkins, director of Waterwise, an independent body that advises the Government and industry on the efficient use of water, said: ‘There is a very real danger that people are being misled by the way these bottled waters are being labelled.

‘When they are selling natural mineral water or spring water filtered through rocks in the north of Scotland, supermarkets are very quick to spell out every detail on the bottle.

‘However, strangely they cannot find the space to list these products as filtered tap water. The public should be told on the label exactly what they are buying.’

Filtered tap water is a fantastic way to ensure that the water you drink is as tasty and safe as you would like it to be. However, instead of paying a supermarket to filter the water already on offer at home for you, you could invest in your own water filtration device, with a top quality filtering system from The Water Filter Company, so you know that not only are you saving money, you also have filtered water on tap whenever you want it!

Not just any tap water, insist the owners of Molecule. They say the water streams through a $25,000 filtering machine that uses ultraviolet rays, ozone treatments and reverse osmosis in a seven-stage processing treatment to create what they call pure H20.

What about the taste? “I mean it’s subtle, but if you have a sensitive palate you can totally tell” the difference, said co-owner Adam Ruhf.

Water quality has long been a point of pride for New Yorkers.

The owners of Molecule, Alexander Venet, and Mr. Ruhf vehemently disagree.

“Terrible,” said Mr. Ruhf, who moved to New York from California about a year ago. “I don’t want chemicals in my water.”

Nneka Leiba, a senior research analyst with the Washington, D.C.-based Environmental Working Group, said the nonprofit organization recommends filtering all drinking water. But she argues that a $15 in-home filtration unit would suffice, rather than paying $2.50 per bottle of tap water.

Filtering water at home is simple, cost effective and great for the environment, and The Water Filter Company has a fantastic range of products to enable you to have filtered water wherever you are.

Here’s why top athletes drink water to win:

Energy and power – Even just a slight drop in hydration levels has a big impact on mental and physical ability. During exercise the body loses even more water than normal through body heat and sweat so drinking enough fluid means you can work harder for longer.

Less injuries – Being dehydrated can cause cramps, fatigue, dizziness and even an increased heart rate. Water also lubricates the muscles and joints making them less susceptible to sprains, tears and damage.

Faster metabolism – this is the amount of energy we burn while we are awake and active. Water increases blood volume and a properly hydrated body is able to work more efficiently

Filtered water provides the cleanest, tastiest and safest way to avoid dehydration. Removing impurities such as metals, chemicals and other unpleasant solutions which are found in tap water means the body is not fighting off unwanted toxins and is working to keep you healthy and energised.

And with our excellent water filter range, The Water Filter Company can help you bring the best and safest filtered water to your home, whether you’re an athlete or not!

With a focus on residential and commercial water treatment markets, PENTEK brand filter products remove contaminants and suspended solids from the water, providing clean, safe drinking water and protecting and extending the life of household appliances and critical equipment.

Sediment filtration is one of the most basic water treatment options available. This type of filtration is accomplished by mechanically removing solid matter from a fluid stream by trapping particles in a solid media.

Carbon cartridges utilize activated carbon and other activated materials to remove contaminants from water. Most carbon filters also use mechanical filtration as well so both sediment and chemicals are reduced.

Specialty cartridges can be used for a number of different applications.

The MicroGuard™ Series uses membrane filters which provide reliable bacteria and protozoan cyst reduction for safer and cleaner drinking water without incorporating chemicals into the media or adding chemicals to the filtered water.

WS Series cartridges are designed to allow optimal contact between water resin surfaces, ensuring maximum ion exchange.

The OAC-20BB filter cartridge is designed for oil adsorption made from modified cellulose-based filter media which is processed into sheets and assembled into cartridges for use in standard 20-inch Big Blue filter housings.

We offer a great selection of PENTEK water filtration systems at The Water Filter Company so you can get advice and help purchasing a water filter to best suit your individual needs.

Why don’t the rest of us?

Gleick discusses how water went from being a free natural resource to one of the most successful commercial products of the last one hundred years—and why we are poorer for it. For example, every second of every day in the United States, a thousand people buy a plastic bottle of water, and every second of every day a thousand more throw one of those bottles away. That adds up to more than thirty billion bottles a year and tens of billions of dollars of sales.

Gleick’s aim was to investigate whether industry claims about the relative safety, convenience, and taste of bottled versus tap are merely fear-mongering. “Designer” H2O may be laughable, but the debate over commodifying water is deadly serious. It comes down to society’s choices about human rights, the role of government and free markets, the importance of being “green,” and fundamental values. Gleick gets to the heart of the bottled water craze, exploring what it means for us to bottle and sell our most basic necessity.

Filtered water is a way to combat any worries consumers have about the quality or safety of tap water. With quality water filters available from The Water Filter Company, customers can purchase a product that will alleviate any worries, and save money wasted on expensive bottled water by turning ordinary tap water into delicious filtered refreshment in an instant!

Here are just four of the best reasons:

Clean and mineral-rich water

A good quality water filter removes the worst contaminants from your source water without removing the naturally occurring minerals, which are critical for optimal health. There are a range of water filters to choose from, so you can decide how filtered you want your water to be.

Convenient and easy to use

Most tap water filters, such as a countertop or faucet filters, can be set up within minutes and do not require a plumber. After that, you just turn on the tap and run the water through your filter for drinking or cooking or brushing your teeth. This saves time and money wasted on purchasing bottled water, along with being a more environmentally friendly option.

The only thing you do have to do is maintain your water filter by changing filters and cleaning the system.

Control of your water quality

Numerous reputable studies have revealed that up to 40 percent of all bottled water is re-processed tap water – in short, you cannot be sure what you are getting.

When you invest in a point-of-use water filter, u can get your local water quality report and know what contaminants are being filtered by your home filter.

Pre-filters or specialty filters can be added, if needed, to remove specific water contaminants from your source water.

Cost effective

Filtering water directly at home is far more cost effective than buying bottled water, which can cost up to 40 times more per gallon.

Even the more expensive water filters are significantly more cost effective than bottled water, especially when evaluating costs over a 5, 10 and 20-year period. This means you can invest in a water filtering system and know it will save thousands in the long-run.

The Water Filter Company has an extensive range of water filters on offer, meaning whatever you opt for, we will be able to provide water filter products to fit your water filter system.
